Disney Store research highlights who Brits wish to spend Christmas with this year. When it comes to Christmas day, the best most of us can hope for is a no-stress day with our families. However new research carried out by Disney Store in celebration of their Christmas Wishes campaign has uncovered that rather than a sweater knitted by Gran, most of us would wish for a celebrity or two to make the big day more eventful.
Robbie Williams tops the nation’s wish list as revealed by the YouGov poll of 2,571 adults to discover which celebrity we’d most like to spend the festive period with. Closely following the chart topper, the household name funny men such as Peter Kay (11.5% joint with Kylie), Jonathon Ross, Paul O’Grady and Ant and Dec dominate the results. Recent Disney Store findings have revealed that nearly two thirds (65%) of the population get stressed in the run up to Christmas – perhaps this is why we are looking for someone who can bring a giggle to the proceedings and help us relax when the day itself arrives?
Rounding up the poll in tenth place is Her Majesty the Queen, proving there is still a place for the royal family in our hearts in the festive season. But would they mind if she had to nip out after dinner to record her speech?
Results were as follows:
1. Robbie Williams – 14%
2. Peter Kay and Kylie joint – 11.5%
3. Paul O’Grady and Jonathan Ross joint – 10%
4. Gordon Ramsey – 7.5%
5. Jamie Oliver – 7%
6. Johnny Depp and George Clooney joint – 5%
7. Kelly Brook, Daniel Craig, David Beckham and Cliff Richard joint – 3%
8. Ant& Dec and Brad Pitt joint – 2%
9. Angelina Jolie and Carole Vordeman joint – 1%
10. The Queen – 0.5%

Robbie Williams raised the roof at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome venue when he played a spectacular concert for 64,000 adoring fans. The British pop star, who is currently in Australia for a series of concerts, received a rapturous reception when he stepped out onto the stage amid a whirl of smoke and pyrotechnics.
The 32-year-old was probably equally as pleased to be visiting the country as its residents were to have him there, because the trip gave him the opportunity to indulge his favourite pastime. After wowing locals with his musical abilities, the Angels singer took advantage of the warmer climes by playing a football match in the city’s Olympic Park stadium.
The former Take That star, who is well-known for his life-long love of the game, takes to the field for a kickabout whenever he gets the chance. Earlier this year he even organised a charity match with many of the sport’s biggest stars, in order to raise money for Unicef. The performer, who counts David Beckham and Wayne Rooney among his friends, owns a stake in first division team Port Vale FC, too.
Robbie might have been forgiven for feeling a little tired on Monday, though, as he is nearing the end of a lengthy world tour. He is then looking forward to a break from the stage, which will no doubt give him plenty of time to work on his footie skills.

Robbie Williams has revealed that he doesn’t want to have children because he wouldn’t be able to protect them from potential pain in their lives. In an candid interview with The Big Issue, Robbie said recently: “I don’t believe that to be fulfilled you have to have kids.” “What’s the point? I can’t guarantee my child won’t suffer pain – because that kid’s going to be in pain at some point in their life. I don’t want to see that. It’s too much.”
He added that he also believes he’s achieved everything he wants to achieve in his life: “There’s isn’t a country I want to break, a stadium I want to play, nor a film I want to be in.” “It’s time for [the character of] Robbie to go away in peoples’ minds – not to be in Britain for a bit.”

When you’re looking to get to the root of your problem, just visit a hypnotist. Robbie Williams has said he is going to make a commitment to himself and recently vowed to quit smoking once and for all by undergoing hypnosis. The British pop star, who smokes up to 60 cigarettes a day, has already given up drugs and alcohol, but now he hopes to kick his other unhealthy habit. Robbie – who was fined $80 for smoking onstage in Australia last week – is so desperate to quit nicotine he has even planned to visit a hypnotist on New Year’s Eve.
He said, “I want to give them up for good in 2007. Seeing a hypnotist on New Year’s Eve seems a good idea to me.” The “Angels” singer has made several attempts to give up cigarettes in the past including a fitness drive last summer. However, Robbie gave into temptation after just a few weeks because he was worried about piling on the pounds. He admitted then, “I smoke loads and I really don’t want to anymore. But I’m terrified of giving up. I’m a fat bloke inside this body and the minute I stop smoking, I will put on weight.”
Robbie’s tour companion includes four packets of cigarettes and four ashtrays. The 32-year-old admitted this week he will never have children. Robbie, who has suffered from depression, says he couldn’t bear to see his children experiencing the same agonizing lows like him. In an interview with British magazine The Big Issue, he said, “I don’t believe that to be fulfilled you have to have kids. What’s the point? I can’t guarantee my child won’t suffer pain because that kid is going to be in pain at some point in their life. I don’t want to see that. It’s too much.”

Robbie Williams is fleeing England because he no longer feels welcome by his British fans. The ANGEL hitmaker has enjoyed a decade of success as a solo singer, but now feels it is time to leave his homeland as he believes Britain is sick at the sight of him. He plans to relocate to Los Angeles. The former TAKE THAT member says, “Back home, I feel like I’ve overstayed my welcome a little bit. “I’ve enjoyed tremendous success for over ten years now – far more than I should have or I ever would have dreamed I’d have. And now it’s the time for Robbie to go away in people’s minds. I think it’s time to not be in Britain for a bit.”

SATURDAY’S Kylie Minogue concert came and went, but there was no sign of her star pal, heart-throb Robbie Williams. The Brit had been touted to sing duet Kids with Kylie on stage, but instead the pop princess’s sister, Dannii, filled the spot. And tickets that Williams had for the show were not used.
So, what busy scheduling kept Williams from appearing at Rod Laver Arena? Apparently not much. Williams was seen having a quiet drink at the Langham Hotel bar on Saturday evening after tussling with mates and the Melbourne Victory boys on the soccer field. Maybe he was resting the vocal cords for his Telstra Dome gig last night. The Kylie and Dannii duet had been a long time coming.
They last performed together onstage in Melbourne at the 1987 I Say No concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. They did a very Young Talent Time-esque rendition of the Pointer Sisters’ Twist My Arm.

Health groups have dubbed rocker Robbie Williams a “very bad boy” for smoking onstage during one of his sell-out Brisbane concerts. The British entertainer last night smoked a cigarette during banter with the 52,000-strong crowd at Suncorp Stadium, in the first of two Brisbane shows from his Close Encounters world tour. Williams, 32, told the adoring crowd he was well aware of a smoking ban at the venue but had failed in his attempts to quit. Authorities today urged Williams not to repeat sending the “wrong message to kids” and flouting the law by sparking up again at tonight’s second show.
The Queensland Cancer Fund’s prevention and early detection unit manager Susan Greenbank said his smoking performance was disappointing, but hardly surprising. “Robbie’s a very bad boy and there are a number of staff at the Queensland Cancer Fund who are more than willing to give him a stern talking to about this,” Ms Greenbank said. “It’s disappointing he chose to break the law. “(But) that’s probably indicative of his attitude to most things … he’s very ‘I’m Robbie Williams I can do what I like’ – it’s just consistent with the rest of his behaviours, so it’s probably not that surprising.”
A spokesman for Health Minister Stephen Robertson said authorities wouldn’t pursue a $150 fine for Williams – the penalty imposed for breaking anti-smoking regulations at sporting venues. “The (health) department has communicated with Ogden – Ogden operates Suncorp Stadium … it is actually up to them to police these sorts of things and to make sure people abide by the laws,” the spokesman said.
“It is illegal to smoke at public venues such as Suncorp Stadium.” But he urged Williams not to light up again. “Robbie is obviously a visitor to this state and he may not be aware of the laws and how seriously we treat them and, while it was a great show last night, we hope there isn’t a repeat performance tonight of that particular episode,” he said. “It sends the wrong message to kids.” The noise from the concert at the venue in Brisbane’s inner suburb of Milton attracted only seven complaints to a hotline specifically set up by the state government. A Suncorp Stadium spokesman said there were two instances where the noise went “slightly” over the limit. He said six troublemakers were evicted, but there were no arrests.

Officials turned down the volume twice at the Robbie Williams concert in Brisbane last night because of the combined noise of the crowd and the music. Some 55,000 people attended last night’s event, with the same number expected tonight for the second Brisbane concert at Lang Park. Local MP and the Sports Minister Andrew Fraser says there were seven noise complaints made to the telephone hotline by local residents. “On two occasions the noise limit did just go over and Robbie was turned down,” he said. “Those were at times when the crowd noise combined with the amplified music noise [which] contributed to it going over. “That happened straightaway and it triggered the monitoring system and the noise was adjusted. All in all the feedback has been very positive from people.”

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is a great performer and probably the best showman and outright entertainer of his generation. His tours here in 2001 and 2003 were masterful displays of first arena, and then stadium pop shows: mixing spectacle with intimacy and irony with sincerity.
He is a good singer, a witty and frank lyricist and, thanks to songwriting collaborations with Guy Barlow and Stephen Duffy, he possesses easily the best mainstream pop catalogue of the past decade, from Angels to Advertising Space.
This does not, however, allow him to put on a show as indulgent and selfish as this one.
For starters, the sound was appalling. In my distant eyrie the music’s bottom end was boomingly stygian, while the high end may as well have been sent via a cheap loudhailer two suburbs away. (The middle range? It was probably still in the dressing room watching the swimming.)
The poor sonic quality certainly didn’t help, but these days we know that ensuring good sound outdoors for the audience is one of the last considerations on the tour checklist. If it’s there at all. Read the rest…
