A representative for Take That has confirmed the group will continue as a four-piece following the departure of Robbie Williams. The singer rejoined his former bandmates last year (10) to make an album and take part in their Progress Live shows, marking his return to the road with the band for the first time in 15 years. The gigs came to an end in July (11) and Williams is now back working on solo material. His departure was confirmed by bandmate Gary Barlow in an interview with Britain’s Radio Times, with the singer saying, “We’re all happy. The fans have come along and been happy… Now Rob’s doing a solo record, and from this point it’s back to where it was. It ended perfectly. And you know what, we can revisit it whenever we want. Take That kicked off their Progress Live 2011 tour in spectacular fashion last night (27.05.11). The ‘Never Forget’ group opened their European tour at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, Northern England, with a huge stage set including an 18 metre tall bionic man prop, acrobats and stage performers climbing a towering wall of water. The band initially appearing as a quartet with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald performing ‘Rule The World’, ‘Greatest Day’, ‘Hold Up A Light’, ‘Patience’ and ‘Shine’.
Returning member of the group Robbie Williams then appeared to perform a selection of his solo hits including ‘Let Me Entertain You’, ‘Rock DJ’, and ‘Angels’. The full five piece group were then reunited onstage to play their first full set in 15 years. Robbie told the crowd: “20 years in the making, 15 years in the waiting, five years deliberating. Ladies and gentlemen, the That That show. I’m very proud to be a part of it all again.” The band then performed a selection of classic tracks from their 90s period including ‘Million Love Songs’, ‘Babe’, ‘Everything Changes’ and ‘Back For Good’.
The stage production reportedly cost ÂŁ15 million to produce and featured 31 performers and nine costume changes for the band.

It may only take a minute to fall in love, but to reach the zenith of your artistic career can take a while longer, as Take That have discovered. After 17 No 1 hits, pop world domination, an acrimonious split and a dewy-eyed reunion, the phenomenally successful boy-turned-manband were finally crowned best British group at the Brit awards, 21 years after their first performance on the cheesy late-night TV show The Hitman & Her. Those with Take That tickets to the band’s upcoming tour will not see the group perform any “silly” dance routines, Robbie Williams has said. The singer rejoined the band in 2010 after quitting 15 years ago and will take part on the Progress Live tour later this year. However, speaking to the Daily Mirror, the star said that they will not be bringing back the sort of high-energy choreography they used to perform last time he toured with the band.
“We could do the dance routines we did first time around, but with this tour it’s bound to look silly, isn’t it,” said the 36-year-old. However, a source said that many fans will want the tour to be similar to the “old days” when Robbie was last in the band. “Fair enough they might not be able to do all the back-breaking routines, but a wave and a cheesy grin alone just won’t cut it,” they said. The past 12 months have marked a memorable year for Take That’s Mark Owen, but perhaps not for all the right reasons. While the super-group has celebrated a bumper 2010 which saw the return of prodigal son Robbie Williams and the announcement of a sell-out tour next year, Mark has battled a number of personal demons that almost spelled the end of his five-year relationship with wife Emma. But strolling along Sandy Lane beach in Barbados today, it looks as though the couple have made-up for good – their relationship sealed with a tender kiss on the shoulder from Emma.

Band’s new LP is ‘fastest-selling album of the century’, according to the Official Charts Company
Two weeks after smashing the record for ticket sales with their comeback tour, Take That’s new LP, Progress, has become the “fastest-selling album of the century”, according to the Official Charts Company. While this is just a hyperbolic phrasing of a more modest truth – it’s the fastest-selling album since 1997 – the LP sold a staggering 235,000 copies on the day of release.
Despite Take That’s mammoth Monday success, they have still to beat Oasis, whose third album, Be Here Now, sold a bewildering 424,000 copies on 21 August 1997. Over the next two days, Oasis saw first-week sales grow to 696,000. Take That may yet unseat Oasis for the overall first-week record, but only through canny scheduling, releasing Progress so early in the week. Read the rest…
