Williams sorry for Oasis song

News No Comments

British pop star Robbie Williams sent a letter of apology to Oasis lead singers Noel and Liam Gallagher after one of their songs appeared on his new album.

According to contactmusic.com, Williams says he was not aware that the song “D**khead” was on the “Rudebox” album and so he sent a note to the brothers. He has been having a feud with them for a while now and has now asked for forgiveness.

But Noel is not buying it and is not moved by the apology. He said: “I haven’t heard the album – I doubt I will – apparently that’s the best track on it. He sent this note to our office claiming he didn’t know it was on the album. He can f**k right off. I don’t give a f**k what he thinks and I don’t give a f**k about him.”

Noel Gallagher: Robbie Williams Can F**k Righ Off

Robbie Williams has apologised to Oasis man Noel Gallagher for including a detrimental song about him on his new number one album ‘Rudebox’. The song, entitled ‘Dickhead’ was Robbie’s half hearted attack on his old friends the Gallaghers. However, in an email to the Gallagher’s management company Robbie apologises for the song’s inclusion on his new album and attempts to make amends.

But, Noel is having none of it, he told The Sun about the contents of the email saying: “He sent this note to our office claiming he didn’t know it was on the album. He can fuck right off. I don’t give a fuck what he thinks and I don’t give a fuck about him.” A source at the Oasis office confirmed they had received an email saying: “Robbie said he was really sorry and claimed he didn’t know how the track had got on the album.

“He apologised to Noel and Liam and everyone else involved.” Seems as though his apology is too little too late.

Robbie Williams tops album chart

Music, News, Records No Comments

Robbie Williams has gone straight to the top of the album charts with his latest album Rudebox. Former chart-toppers Killers slipped from number one to number five, with new entries from My Chemical Romance, Meat Loaf and Rod Stewart. McFly topped the singles chart with Star Girl, closely followed by Fedde le Grande’s Put Your Hands Up For Detroit. Last week’s number one My Chemical Romance’s Welcome To The Black Parade, dropped to four, behind Girls Aloud.

It is the eighth chart-topping album for the former Take That star, who is currently on tour in South America. Last month Williams, 32, called off the Asian leg of his world tour in November, citing stress and exhaustion.

Robbie Williams: Rudebox, in stores from today!

Robbie Williams

Your least favourite popstar’s gone electro and it’s – whisper it – good. With his Take That past coming back to haunt him, tabloids sharpening their knives and missed appearances, clearly all is not well with Williams. And yet he has claimed that this is the first musical venture where he is being himself. The stakes are extremely high. Luckily, ‘Rudebox’ is the best thing he’s ever put his name to. From a career of trying on different ill-fitting identities (CampPop Robbie, Fat Dancer Robbie, Swing Robbie, Stadium Robbie) he has finally found one that fits. Fucking about on laptops with the likes of Lily Allen and Pet Shop Boys, he has hit on a fun, frantic, pisstaking mixtape of crystalline ’80s electropop, Skinner derived rap-ups and lazy skank pop.

Lyrically, Williams has always been a very British mix of redcoat self-deprecation and zeitgeisty, chemically-enhanced moodiness, but on ‘Rudebox’ he continues this without falling into the previous pratfalls of whininess or navel-gazing. There’s the double-headed autobiography of ‘The 80s’ (currently at the centre of a legal dispute) and its follow-up ‘The 90s’, the clattering ‘Vogue’ rap in the LA tale ‘The Actor’ and ‘She’s Madonna’ – possibly his most bonkers song ever. ‘Rudebox’ is not ‘Robbie Williams the serious artiste’, but it is an amazing pop album. It remains to be seen if it will be his undoing with the mainstream and those tabloid hacks. But it seems, musically at least, he’s just getting started. And, if you leave your preconceptions at the door, you might just love it.

Mexico City – Robbie Williams’ bottom and a band that dresses like furry bunnies graced MTV’s 2006 Latin America Music Awards, where reggaeton sensation Daddy Yankee won top prize for artist of the year. MTV made a triumphant return to Mexico on Thursday after Hurricane Wilma ruined last year’s ceremony just hours before it was to begin on a pristine Caribbean beach. This year’s ceremony is the first to take place outside Miami. “MTV finally understood that Miami is not Latin America,” said presenter and actor Diego Luna as some 10 000 attendees cheered. Britain’s Robbie Williams, who won best international pop artist, gave the audience an eye-full before performing Rock DJ when he pulled his pants down and mooned the audience.

Daddy Yankee, who helped spread catchy reggaeton music – a fiery mix of reggae and hip hop – from dance floors in New York’s Bronx to Venezuela’s posh clubs, said his music was no short-lived trend. “Reggaeton made the change in music. Reggaeton is here to stay, that’s what people showed us,” the Puerto Rican singer told Reuters. Colombia’s Shakira went home with the tongue-shaped award for song of the year for “Hips don’t lie” from her second English-language album, “Oral Fixation Vol 2.”

Mexican singer and accordion player Julieta Venegas’ six nominations turned into just a single win for best performer of the year. But Mexican indie act Panda won in three categories – best band, best alternative artist, and newcomer of the year. MTV set up a green carpet at the Palacio de los Deportes dome, in southern Mexico City, where artists and guests paraded before screaming fans while television crews and photographers elbowed for room. Clad in their trademark white bunny outfits to keep their identities a secret, members of the Mexican band Austin TV joked with fans. Mexican band Mana won video of the year and best rock artist plus a special award to honour their two decades in the music business. Mana’s drummer Alex Gonzalez told Reuters the band was getting ready for a tour that will take it across Latin America and Europe.

Robbie Williams gets cheeky with fans at MTV Latin Music Awards

News No Comments

Pop music’s “bad boy” got a little cheeky with fans at Thursday’s MTV Latin Music Awards in Mexico City after he dropped his pants before performing “Rock DJ” and gave the audience a glimpse at his full moon.

Williams, who won best international pop artist, was just one performer at an event that included Daddy Yankee, who won artist of the year, Shakira, who won song of the year, and Mexican singer Julieta Venegas, who won best performer of the year. The Mexican indie act Panda took home awards in three different categories including best band, best alternative artist, and newcomer of the year. The Mexican band Mana took home the video of the year award and best rock artist award. They were also honored with an award for their work in Latin music over the past two decades

The music channel has set up a “green carpet” at the Palacio de los Deportes dome for the stars of Latin music and their guest to arrive in style in front of their fans, and take a few moments for quick interviews.

Adidas to launch Robbie Williams tracksuits (I’m loving adidas instead)

News 1 Comment

Robbie Williams has become something of a cultural icon and even in his earlier Take That days, he could be seen wearing adidas clothing. Now things are set to move to a higher level with the launch of the Robbie Williams adidas tracksuit.

adidas and Robbie Williams have enjoyed a formal relationship for several years. Robbie recently approached adidas to investigate the possibility for some custom made adidas tracksuits to feature in the visuals of his latest album campaign. adidas was happy to enter into this project with him, which resulted in the production of the tracksuits worn by Robbie Williams on the cover of his “Rudebox” album.

The three different tracksuit styles will go on sale on the morning of Friday, 20th October as a very limited edition. The outfits are available in men and women styles and are sold exclusively at nine adidas Originals stores worldwide. Those stores can be found in Hong Kong, Berlin, Cologne, Zurich, Copenhagen, London (Earlham Street), Amsterdam, Lille and Barcelona.

This collaboration is the result of mutual respect grown over the last years.

Robbie Williams and Take That face off

News, Records, Take That No Comments

LONDON (Reuters) – Robbie Williams and his former bandmates from Take That go head to head later this month with the release of an album and a DVD on the same day. Williams, who has forged a successful solo career since leaving boyband Take That and who frequently makes digs at his former bandmates during gigs, is releasing his new album “Rudebox” on October 23. The album follows last year’s “Intensive Care”, which, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry trade group, was the top selling album in Europe last year and sold more than five million copies in total. Take That are releasing a DVD on the same day called “The Ultimate Tour – Live in Manchester”, which features a documentary about the build up to the band’s reunion — after splitting in 1996 — and successful return to the stage. Take That are also promoting a new album which appears on November 27 called “Beautiful World”.

Williams has asked young film-makers to make seven short films to compliment his new album and is holding a competition for the eighth film to accompany the track “The 80s”. Williams will be on the panel of judges and the winner will receive 7,500 pounds in prize money as well as possibly see the film included on a special DVD. “This is the record I’ve always wanted to make,” Williams said in a statement. It’s reignited how I think about what I can do with music myself.”

Speaking about the film competition, he added: “Just like in music, today you can create a masterpiece out of an i-book and some digital footage, as much as you can in a fancy studio.”

Williams is signed to EMI and Take That to Universal Music Group’s Polydor label.

Robbie’Video Competition

Music, News No Comments

Robbie Williams is collaborating with seven different filmmakers to create seven original short films using the tracks from his new album Rudebox.

Now he is inviting all the independent filmmakers out there to provide the eighth for his track The 80′s. The winner, chosen by Robbie Williams and other industry greats (to be announced shortly), will win a £7,500 prize. There is a further prize of £7,500 for the winning film as voted by the public.

“This is the record I’ve always wanted to make. It’s reignited how I think about what I can do with music myself, ‘Rudebox’ was done in a guerrilla way, no plan of action, it just evolved into what it is naturally.

That’s what I like about film today and why I wanted to do this project and competition. Just like in music, you can create a masterpiece out of an i-book and some digital footage, as much as you can in a fancy studio. That’s how ‘The 80s’ began life itself, in my bedroom in LA with my friend Jerry messing around on my Mac. I’m very excited to see what the film makers can come up with.

Robbie Williams sued 300,000 pounds for defamation by ex-manager

News No Comments

London, Oct. 7: Fans of Robbie Williams may have to wait for his new album for some more time, for his ex-manager has filed a writ petition against him over the inclusion of a song he believes is defamatory, casting doubts as to whether his new album will release on time.

Nigel Martin-Smith has reportedly filed a writ petition against Williams and his record label Chrysalis in the High Court, demanding 300,000 pounds in damages over a track on his forthcoming Rudebox CD. Nigel is said to have made this move after the singer did not pay a heed to his demand to not release a song in the album called ‘The 90s’, the lyrics of which, he believes, are highly defamatory to him and are untrue. Since the album is scheduled to be out on October 23, Williams’ lawyers will have to move quickly to avoid its release from being delayed. A procedural judge will hear the initial stages of the action against Chrysalis Records, while his colleague will take up the early stages of the claim against Robbie.

The hearing is expected to last for weeks or even months, and this has become a cause of worry for Robbie’s record label, which has already shelled out a lot of money on the international marketing campaign to promote the album. “The major problem is that thousands of pounds have already been spent on an international marketing campaign to promote the album. From the record label’s point of view the album has to come out on time,” the Sun quoted an insider as saying.ANI / news.sawf.org

Robbie Williams – Lovelight.

Music, News, Records No Comments

Robbie Williams will release his new single ‘Lovelight’ on November 13th on Chrysalis. Taken from his highly anticipated forthcoming Rudebox album which precedes the single on October 23rd.

‘Lovelight,’ recorded with NYC based uber-producer Mark Ronson earlier this year is a spectacular cover of Lewis Taylor’s criminally unknown soul-anthem. Together they have taken it from its warm soul roots, and transform it into a building euphoric disco anthem featuring a full-on falsetto vocal performance that ranks amongst one of his most dynamic and definitive singles to date.

“I wouldn’t have known about Lovelight if it hadn’t have been for Tom Middleton’s ‘The Trip’ album – he put it on there, and I fell in love with it instantly…I can’t believe how big that song is and no one knows it,” says RW.

“I’d never heard that and Rob came to me and said “I want to cover this.” It’s an amazing, obscure English soul record, and he’s delivered a great classic blue-eyed soul vocal in the lineage of George Michael, Andy Gibb or Hall & Oates,” adds Ronson.

The single is backed by a spectacular mix package, with new re-workings courtesy of Soulwax, Kurd Maverick, Soul Mekanik and Ronson himself, that look set to follow previous single ‘Rudebox’ into club charts across the world. The single is also backed by a spectacular and iconic new video shot recently whilst in Vienna during a break from touring, which can currently be viewed exclusively on www.robbiewilliams.com.

On that front Robbie has just completed the monumental European leg of his record breaking ‘Close Encounters’ World tour, culminating in a massive 5 nights at Milton Keynes Bowl and playing to over 2.5 million people along the way.

Alongside his work with Ronson, ‘Rudebox’ finds RW collaborating with an array of musical mavericks including his heroes the Pet Shop Boys, King of ambient William Orbit, fellow Stoke natives Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews AKA Soul Mekanik, disco-house icon Dave ‘Joey Negro’ Lee on both new original compositions and covers of some of his favourite tracks that through its 16 tracks mark out and charts his musical loves and life. Lyrically it is very broad; humorous, historical, honest and revealing, a rollercoaster that takes you from introverted to extravagant, the break up to the make up, this is perhaps the most definitive Robbie Williams opus to date.

‘Lovelight’ is released on November 13th 2006 on Chrysalis / EMI Records. ‘Rudebox’ – The album is released on October 23rd.
