Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston have been lined up to fill Michael Jackson’s cancelled dates at the O2 arena, it has been claimed. The promoters AEG hope that both stars will launch their comeback tours at the 20,000 venue in Greenwich, south east London. Robbie Williams says he is “buzzing” about his new album and is convinced it will resurrect his career. Singer is adamant his new album will be a huge success. The ‘Angels’ singer has become a regular visitor to the Premiere Club, which is located in Swindon near his Wiltshire mansion. Robbie, who is often accompanied by best friend Jonathan Wilkes, has been described as a talent by his opponents. A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Robbie has been in frequently over the last few weeks. He plays to a very high standard and has been having fun with Jonathan.
“He’s getting a reputation as a serious adversary around the poker tables here.” ‘Rudebox’ singer Robbie previously played poker while living in Los Angeles, and even ran his own card school, asking celebrities such as Welsh singer Tom Jones to join him. Tom previously said: “Robbie’s started a poker circle. He’s bought a house up the street from me and has been asking me to join in but I can’t play.” Robbie has been in the UK since last December when he rushed home from his Los Angeles house to visit his mother in hospital, where she underwent a heart bypass operation. Robbie Williams’ manager Tim Clark has suggested that the singer is considering rejoining Take That at their forthcoming London Wembley Stadium gigs. Clark told The Sun that Williams might make a cameo at one of the gigs – but scuppered rumours that he was set to rejoin the band for good. “They are all great friends again,” he said. “Whether Robbie pops up at Wembley Stadium is up to him. Robbie Williams has been seriously mulling over what the future holds for him. His dilemma is whether to continue chasing his American dream or come back home to Britain for a reunion with Take That. Robbie dashed back to the UK from his home in LA to be with his mum Jan, 67, when she went into hospital for heart bypass surgery on 19 December. ‘Rob’s devastated,’ a friend tells Now. ‘Jan’s everything to him. She’s the person who’ll always stand by him.’
But Robbie, 34, is finding himself torn between two women – Jan and actress girlfriend Ayda Field. He and Ayda, 29, have been dating for 18 months and had talked about spending more time at Robbie’s £7 million home in Compton Bassett, Wiltshire. But just before Christmas Ayda apparently said it would be hard for her to join him. ‘She says she can’t leave Hollywood if she’s to succeed in her acting career,’ says a source. ‘It’s a blow for Rob.’ Robbie had been due to fly to the UK to spend a day between Christmas and New Year at the home of former bandmate Gary Barlow. The couple are said to have ended their 14-month romance earlier this month, with sources close to the former Take That star claiming it was because he was concentrating too much on his new album.
However, a new source has told the Sun, it’s his research into UFOs and alien life forms that actually sucked up all his time: “He has become more obsessed than ever recently with aliens. Some nights he would stay up till daylight and not go back to bed. I think the break could be permanent – they’ve been having ups and downs for a while. “Robbie is such a generous guy. Robbie Williams has made his first public appearance in three months – wearing a gorilla suit.
The reclusive star has spent the entire summer holed up in his Los Angeles mansion, but emerged yesterday (23.09.08) wearing the outfit, and a pair of sunglasses, which he had purchased from a local fancy dress store. The shop manager said: “He spent a long time trying various costumes before he chose the gorilla suit and bought it for $60.”
Robbie – who recently split from long-term girlfriend Ayda Field – insisted on changing into the bizarre outfit before leaving the shop, and then strolled around Hollywood holding hands with a mystery woman.
The ‘Angels’ singer has become increasingly obsessed with aliens in recent months, and friends are said to fear for his mental state. Ex-girlfriend Tara Palmer-Tomkinson said: “Of course I’m worried for Robbie. He’s a genius and when you’re that smart and have been in the public eye for so long you want to escape.” It is believed the 34-year-old star’s fascination with UFOs was a major factor in his split with Ayda.

Also on the bill at The Brit Awards – a Tribute, will be acts mimicking rock heroes Oasis and Bon Jovi.
